Gender Differences among Economists in Fields of Specialization

June 29, 2018

Congratulations to Emeritus Professor Ron Oaxaca for receiving a $291,998 grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.  His study examines gender differences in the choice of field specialization among Ph.D. economists. Professor Oaxaca will be working with Dr. Eva Sierminska from the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research to understand the driving forces behind the gender segregation in fields of economic specialization.  It is expected that this research will shed light on the larger issue of gender segregation in the labor market, especially as it applies more broadly to the under representation of women in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields.
