Minor in Economics

To fulfill a minor in economics at the University of Arizona students must take at least 18 units of economics coursework, of which at least 9 units must be upper-division.

In addition to those general requirements, the specifications below must be met.

 

Introductory Courses:
You must complete one of the below introduction courses before moving on to other economics course offerings.

ECON 200 – Basic Economic Issues, or
ECON 201a-b – Principles of Economics, or
ECON 210 – Survey of Economics
(P, six units of calculus)

Macroeconomics Requirement:
You must take at least one of the following two macroeconomic courses.

ECON 330 – Macroeconomic Institutions and Policy (can only be taken during Summer and Winter sessions)
ECON 332 – Intermediate Macroeconomics
(P, MATH 113 or 124 or 125)

Microeconomic Requirement:
You must take at least one of the following two microeconomic courses.

ECON 300 – Microeconomic Analysis for Business Decisions (can only be taken during Summer and Winter sessions)
ECON 361 – Intermediate Microeconomics
(P, MATH 113 or 115a-b or 124 or 125)

Elective Requirement:
Additional economics courses must be taken to meet the overall 18 unit minimum. At least one of these electives must be upper-division.

To meet the total unit requirement additional economics electives should be selected based on your interests and goals.

Please note that enrollment into Econ 300 and 330 during the Fall and Spring Semesters is restricted to students who have been admitted to the Eller College.

Students who choose to minor in economics are only eligible to take Econ 300 and 330 during the summer and winter sessions.

Students interested in taking Econ 332 or 361 should note that Math 113 or 115a-b or 124 or 125 is a prerequisite for both courses.
