Explore the Economics Department

The University of Arizona's Economics Department invites you to meet our faculty and learn about their research. You can also learn about the Department's undergraduate programs and its Ph.D. program and about the Department's reputation for outstanding teaching.
The Department's faculty and doctoral students have won many national and international awards for their research. Our faculty groups in experimental economics and in economic history have long been recognized as among the world's best in those fields, and we’ve recently built one of the world’s best young faculty groups in industrial organization. The Economic Science Laboratory is a pioneer in experimental and behavioral economics.
The Arizona Economics Department is also acclaimed for the quality of its teaching. Our faculty members consistently win university and national teaching awards. And our students have unusually good access to the faculty: every one of our faculty members teaches undergraduate courses. Only a handful of our courses are taught by our graduate students; we have an innovative program for developing the teaching skills of our graduate students and for selecting only the best to teach their own courses. Even our graduate students earn university awards for their outstanding teaching.
The University of Arizona is located in Tucson, a city that sits in a "lush desert" full of trees and many kinds of cactus, and surrounded by beautiful mountains. The climate and the environment make it especially attractive for those who enjoy hiking, running, cycling, tennis, golf, and other outdoor activities.
We can sum it all up this way: Studying at "The Economics Department in the Desert" is exciting and rewarding.
